What you should eat

Fats & Oils

This is one thing i wish i knew when i first started out. Oils is great, that’s what i heard for many years, however. NOT ALL OF THEM. Aim for Olive Oil, Butter is great, not margarin. Coconut Oil is a good product aswell.

Protein

This one does not surprise anyone. However, since Keto is a low-carb diet, you should try and aim for the fatty steaks (Delicious), fatty fish like Salmon and Ground Beef is an excellent option because of the cheaper price. EGGS, is probably what i eat the most. Delicious, and you can do so much with it.

Dairy

My opinion is that most dairy is fine, but you shouldn’t go bananas on them since they actually contain a little bit of carbs. You should probably go for the full fat ones, seems more natural to me. Cheese is really tasty AND acceptable and will make your life easier when on Keto.

Vegetables

Vegetables is key for me on a Ketogenic diet, however. Be careful, many vegetables and actually quite carbfilled. I usually go for Mushrooms, salad, spinach and the leafy kinds. It will up the taste on your meals.

Nuts

Nuts is a lifesaver sometimes on a Ketogenic Diet. It can be used in your meals or just as a snack, it will really help you if you get some cravings.

Beverages

Here’s the part where ALOT of people go wrong, doesn’t matter which diet. Many people think that fruitbeverages is okay, but they are actually REALLY heavy on calories. I always drink water for my meals, and throughout the day. When my cravings kick in, i always have some Pepsi Max or Coke Zero at home.

REMEMBER, if you are new to this diet, or you need mealplans, tips/tricks. Check out the bottom of my blog. There you have a link to an awesome 28 day mealplan that will help you kickstart your Keto Diet or take it to the next level!

My experience with the Ketogenic diet.

I started my Keto Diet almost a year ago now, the only thing that i had heard about it before starting was that it controls your hunger very well. And the feeling of always being hungry was a problem for me in every diet i had tried before. I could eat a big meal but after 1-2 hours i would get hungry again.

A friend of mine recommended doing Keto with Intermitting Fasting. So, i started out doing my first meal at lunch, 12:00 and my second meal after my workout at 19:00.

During my first week, this was doable but kind of tough. I wasn’t used to not eating breakfast. But after my first week the annoying feeling of always being hungry dissappeared. So, the hunger was gone. My energy level went up and the motivation in the gym went up. The first week i didn’t experiment alot with different foods. I basically ate eggs/bacon for my first meal. And some sort of red meat with vegetables for my second meal. So my first 14 meals on the Keto Diet was pretty much identical.

The reason for that was the fact that i didn’t really know what i was suppose to eat. Keto differs from LCHF quite a bit. My idea of Keto is good quality meat, fatty fish/avocados etc. Preferably no unhealthy oils when you cook, and restricted dairy intake.

After a couple of months, i had dropped quite a bit of weight, basically with no effort. I didn’t do any cardio or increased my intensity when lifting weights. I didn’t really believe it, because i had dropped weight, but my energy levels went way up, hunger was no longer a problem and my gut felt amazing. However, the food started getting boring again, like in my previous diets.

The purpose of this blog is not to educate you on the Ketogenic Diet, i do NOT know the science behind it. The only thing i know is that when you reach ”Ketosis”, that’s when you maximize your fatloss. I’m gonna try and help you NOT to get bored of the different foods and hopefully you can reach the state of Ketosis. In the next post i’m going to give some advice on what you can eat and what not to eat.

If you go to the bottom of my page i have a picture that will take you to a great website that provides excellent help for basically your first month of Keto. It contains a 28 day mealplan that will kickstart your Keto lifestyle.

Happy Keto.

Ketogenic Diet vs Any Other Diet

Before going in to this chaotic world of different diets, let me just say. I’m no expert at all, I’m just a regular guy that struggled with loosing and then maintaining weight.

So, i’ve tried many different diets and methods and supplements that has been recommended for years. That includes:

High Carb/Low Fat

LCHF

”Eat everything in moderation”

Paleo

Atkins

and so on.

Here’s the thing!

They all work, they really do. I did the typical ”Bodybuilding Diet” for a few years, it worked well for me in the context of loosing weight. BUT, the food was becoming too boring for me. For me, the food was typically dry and tasteless. Just a big amount of Chicken/Rice/Vegetables with not alot of fatty foods. That just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. I played around with a few other diets like ”LCHF”.

LCHF was great for me for a while, but my personal opinion on LCHF is that the amount of fat and the different kinds of fat that you eat is.. Unnecessary to be honest.

Almost every recipe that i cooked was a big amount of heavy cream, lots of cheese and not alot of great animal fat, like beef and fatty fish. LCHF could work great to shed a few pounds. But for me, not sustainable for a long period of time.

I did those 2 diets for a total of 3 years. But my main problem was the fact that they were not sustainable in the long run for me. The ”Bodybuilding Diet” was getting so boring tastewise and was boring to cook. LCHF was a little bit funnier in that regard, however, the amount of fat that i ate everyday was just getting a little bit too much.

The other diets i mentioned, i wasn’t following them for quite as long, but! They work well. The thing about weightloss is, it doesn’t really matter what you eat, if you eat less calories than your body actually needs, you are going to loose weight. The problem for many (including me) is that we don’t really know what the best foods to eat is. How do you want to fill your daily caloric intake?

So, 1 year ago i stumbled upon the Ketogenic Diet. In my next blogpost i’ll go more in to detail on my experience with Keto.
